Linocut & Drypoint

Linocut & Drypoint Printmaking

Beginner-Friendly Art Class in Berlin

Join this creative, hands-on printmaking workshop in Berlin and learn two classic techniques: linocut and drypoint. This beginner-friendly art class is ideal for anyone curious about printmaking, whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your creative practice.

To begin with, the course introduces you to linocut, where you’ll carve into a linoleum block to produce bold, graphic prints. You’ll also learn how to break your design into remixable puzzle-like pieces, which allows for flexible compositions and playful experimentation. Additionally, you’ll explore the reduction technique, where a single block is used to create multiple layers of color, resulting in rich, dynamic imagery.

Then, you’ll learn the basics of drypoint printmaking by using PET-G plates and repurposed Tetra Pak packaging. These smooth surfaces are perfect for incising fine lines and capturing detailed textures. Moreover, drypoint offers a more subtle, expressive quality, ideal for adding delicacy and atmosphere to your prints. In this way, the contrast between linocut’s bold structure and drypoint’s softness enables you to create prints with depth, tone, and personality.

Incorporating Tetra Pak into your work introduces a sustainable aspect to your printmaking practice. By repurposing everyday packaging, you can engage in an environmentally-conscious process that still allows for creativity and innovation.
