with Tetrapak and PET-G Plates
In this drypoint printmaking course, you will learn how to create unique prints using Tetrapak packaging and PET-G as your printing plates. Alma Matter emphasizes cost-effective and sustainable approaches, using everyday materials that make printmaking accessible to all. You’ll also be part of a supportive creative community, where sharing, experimentation, and collaboration are highly encouraged.
Tetrapak is a flexible and affordable option for intaglio printmaking. Its smooth surface allows for fine line work and intricate designs using a drypoint tool. You can use the entire Tetrapak carton as a single plate or cut it into smaller pieces. Each piece can hold a different design. You can rearrange them as you print, giving you endless combinations and layout possibilities. This modular technique helps you explore patterns and compositions using just a few elements.
PET-G is another excellent material for drypoint. Like Tetrapak, it offers a smooth surface that’s easy to incise, making it ideal for creating detailed prints. It’s also more affordable than traditional intaglio plates. This makes PET-G perfect for beginners or anyone interested in trying drypoint without high material costs.
You’ll be encouraged to print without a press, focusing on the tactile and manual side of the process. This hands-on method connects you more deeply with your tools and materials. However, if you prefer, a printmaking press can also be used. This gives you room to experiment and find the workflow that suits you best.
Throughout the course, you’ll be surrounded by fellow artists in a collaborative and encouraging setting. Share your work, gain insights, and stay inspired. By the end, you’ll have created original prints while developing practical skills with Tetrapak and PET-G.
